Overview
Volunteers log wildlife sightings in mangroves and national park edges, places with no reliable signal. The app had to work entirely offline and reconcile cleanly when it got back online.
The challenge
Field data was being collected on paper and transcribed weeks later, with a meaningful error rate. Any app would need GPS, photos, and species lookup without a network connection.
What we did
We built a local-first architecture on SQLite with a conflict-aware sync layer, bundled the species database on-device, and designed a one-handed logging flow that takes under fifteen seconds in the field.
